I consider myself a bit of a foodie. I love trying new restaurants, savoring different flavor combinations, and cooking up recipes of my own. This summer, I travelled throughout eastern Wisconsin for work and found a few standout restaurants in the city of Fond du Lac. Let me walk you through the enjoyable eateries I discovered.
The Brick House
In late June, I went to The Brick House. It's located in downtown Fond du Lac among other shops and sellers. It has a charming brick interior and eccentric iron décor. The hostess greeted me kindly, and I took in the warm, wooden ambience as she led me to my seat. I ordered mahi mahi tacos. The menu described them as "blackened mahi mahi, seasoned with slaw blend, avocado, topped with our chipotle sauce." They were both delicious and nutritious! The slaw and avocado were fresh and tasty, and the sauce was creamy with a hit of spice. The flavors and textures of the tacos were expertly tied together. I had such a lovely experience at the restaurant, and I would be happy to return. They even had a large bar in a connected room which would be fun to visit another time. I paid $14 for the meal of three tacos, and I had one leftover for later.

The Sweet & Salty Pig
This was such a cute find. I was looking for a late lunch, and the colorful outdoor seating of The Sweet & Salty Pig drew me in. I ordered a Greek Salad with mixed greens, cavatappi pasta, feta cheese, kalamata olives, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, red onions, herb Greek yogurt dressing AND lemon herb vinaigrette. Whew! When I say that this was packed with flavor, believe me that it really packed a punch. Not to mention, it only cost $10 and came with a breadstick. What a great deal for such a delightful meal. I loved the cool, crunchy cucumbers and red onions in particular. The noodles also added some bulk to the salad which I liked. It's a tough call between which dressing I enjoyed better, but I think I would put the herb Greek yogurt just ahead of the lemon herb vinaigrette. It complemented the dish perfectly, and I think I could make something similar at home to enjoy again. Overall, the waitstaff were friendly and prompt, and I would definitely go back. They have plenty of pig inspired décor strung about, not to mention an array of dishes served with bacon and ham. I believe a piglet was peering at me in a bright pink and blue painting as I dined!

Just Love Coffee Café
This coffee shop had a little bit of everything with breakfast, lunch, dinner, coffee, and pastries. It was open later than many other cafés which I appreciate for my timeframe. It had a bright and inviting aesthetic, not like other warm, dim, and cozy coffee shops I frequent. The light fixture on the ceiling was even shaped like a waffle which I thought was a cute touch. I ordered a breakfast taco with scrambled eggs and chorizo sausage along with a fruit cup. The breakfast taco was elevated by the tortilla pressed like a waffle and the added salsa. The fruit cup had deliciously ripe blueberries and strawberries. In total, the meal cost about $7. I ended up staying there for an hour or so doing work before I headed out. I also learned that Just Love is actually a chain coffee shop with locations around the U.S., but it was new to me!

Mmmm! I am very impressed with the dishes this little town delivered. Out of my three restaurant visits, I would give The Sweet & Salty Pig the prize for Best Food and The Brick House the prize for Best Ambience and Experience. Foodies, go check out Fond du Lac!
