Getting a facial has been an annual treat for myself since I was 17. Once a year I get a facial to let a professional improve and maintain my skin -- and I so look forward to those appointments! It started when I was working as a salon receptionist and got to take advantage of free services (woot woot!). The aesthetician there provided a fantastic facial using PCA Skin products, and I knew I was hooked. From there I tried a facial at a salon that focuses on natural skincare. I learned a lot about what ingredients and chemicals to avoid and left looking as glowy as a glazed donut (in a good way π). Finally, I stumbled upon KS Skin, a woman-owned small business in my hometown, and I haven't looked back.
I've gotten three facials from Kristin at KS Skin, and each time does not disappoint. The first thing I do upon arrival is fill out a short questionnaire regarding the current state of my skin and health. This provides information about skin goals, any treatments you're on, etc. Then I am welcomed into a room with cozy dΓ©cor hung about, soft instrumental music playing, and relaxing lights dimmed just right.
I get the Express Facial, which is a less elaborate version of a traditional facial, but still pampering. Kristin starts by examining the state of my skin under a light and thoroughly cleaning my face with Dermalogica cleansers. Then she did an exfoliating treatment. At my most recent visit she used a diamond scrub made with finely crushed diamonds to slough away dead skin cells and reveal a more even complexion (how cool is that?!).
Then she moved on to extractions. Yeah, the simultaneously gross and satisfying part of removing whiteheads, blackheads, and "the works" from your pores. Sometimes it hurts like heck, but I just keep in mind this speeds up the skin's healing process. Also, it's best to leave this part to the professionals! Picking and popping your own skin can lead to scarring and can do more harm than good.
Something I've only experienced at KS Skin is light therapy. This is the point in the facial where she zaps my face with a small, buzzing light that's supposed to help sterilize and protect the skin. Sounds scary, I know, but I barely feel a thing. I wish I could tell you more about light therapy, but I just trust the process.
The next step of the facial is a hydrating sheet mask. She left this on for about 10 minutes and massaged the remaining product into my face and neck. At this point Kristin sometimes offers to put SPF on depending what time of day it is, and then you're done!
Throughout the service Kristin is pleasant to chat with and has information to share about any skincare questions you may have. I also love how without fail, she gives a bunch of free Dermalogica samples! I always leave with a handful of products to try out, and it's a generous touch to the experience.
The following day, Kristin reaches out via text to check in on how your skin is doing. I appreciate how she welcomes communication and really cares!
I've truly enjoyed my experiences getting facials, and I plan to return to KS Skin for the foreseeable future. I mean, who doesn't love brighter and tighter skin?!
