Transforming into the Snow Princess

Anna is one of the most sprightly, silly, and sweet Disney Princesses ever, and that's what makes her so loveable. Her awkwardness is relatable and her bravery is commendable as we see throughout both Frozen and Frozen II. As a Princess Performer, I have transformed into the Snow Princess a handful of times, and, to be honest, I have to do a bit of a deep dive to find all that energy that she has within myself. It's a tall order as an introvert, but I've come to enjoy stepping into someone else's shoes and another character's confidence through performing.

I am going to explain step-by-step how I do my makeup for the Snow Princess. Just to note, this is quite a similar process to my "Becoming the Snow Queen" post, but there are a few steps that are distinctly "Anna." Let's get started!

FACE

After I've prepped with skincare and SPF, I apply the e.l.f Poreless Face Primer, focusing on the T-zone. This offers a smooth canvas to work on and some staying power for the next products.

Then I go in with the Maybelline Super Stay Foundation. I put one pump of product on the back of my hand, dot it around my face with my finger, and blend with a face brush, making sure to go down the neck.

Next, I seal things in with a dusting of loose powder across the face. I use the Maybelline Shine Free Loose Powder to battle the heat and sweat. I'm typically outside in the sun in layers of costumes, so trying to keep the makeup matte is essential.

Then I do my eyebrows. I fill in sparse areas with the e.l.f. Instant Lift Brow Pencil, but then, I have to make them orange to match Anna's auburn hair! I take a rust color from my City Color eyeshadow trio on a thin liner brush and run the color evenly through my brows. It may look a little silly at first, but it'll look great with the wig on. Then I lock everything in place with my favorite clear brow gel, NYX Control Freak.

Time for contouring! I apply the Wet n Wild MegaGlo contour stick under my cheekbones, down the bridge of my nose, and on the jawline. Then, blend, blend, blend! You don't want to overblend the product so it disappears, but it's better than underblending and having an awkward streak of color.

Then comes blush. I apply a healthy amount to the apples of my cheeks and blend back towards the hairline. A tip I learned recently (and love!) is putting a little blush on the nose to look more youthful and like I've been outside in the cold of Arendelle. I typically use the Ben Nye cream blush.

Now my favorite part: highlight! I sweep the e.l.f Shimmer Highlighting Powder in Pearl Glow across the top of my cheekbones and on the tip of my nose. The Snow Princess gets a good amount of glow, but not quite as much as the Snow Queen, as sparkles are her specialty.

Another thing to note is that sometimes I layer cream and powder products to intensify the colors on my face. If I want my contour, blush, or highlight to show up better, layering creams and powders can be a good way to make them pop (and stay on longer!).

EYES

The eyes are up next, and I keep it fairly simple. We just want to add some depth and make the eyes appear bigger than they are. Taking a warm brown eyeshadow from Maybelline's The Nudes Palette, I sweep it all over the lid and above the crease. I blend in a windshield wiper motion to get a rounded edge. I go up pretty high with the color but make certain to leave clean space under my brow bone.   

Then I carefully apply liquid eyeliner with just a slight wing. I don't want a cat-eye shape, but just a slight lift at the end of the eye. Maybelline Precise Liquid Eyeliner is a good one.

    

After curling my eyelashes, I apply a generous coat of the aptly named Essence Lash Princess Mascara. It doesn't have to be perfect, though, because false eyelashes come next. I found a pack of falsies on Amazon that have worked well for me. I just have to trim them slightly, apply the glue across the band, wait about 20 seconds for the glue to get tacky, and then press them gently onto my lashline. I take the back of a thin makeup brush to push them down and get a better grip. Honestly, it still scares me a little to apply lashes because they sure can be finicky. But! It definitely gets better with practice and is so worth it.

For the lower lash line I apply Wet n Wild Megalast Retractable Eyeliner to the outer half of the eye, making sure to leave the waterline clean. White eyeliner goes on the waterline to brighten the eyes and make them appear bigger and more cartoon-like. 

LIPS

NYX Matte Lipstick in Natural is my go-to for a few princesses, but especially Anna. The formula is great. It feels soft on the lips, but I don't have to worry about it sliding around. I think I want to buy a few more colors just for fun. 😉 

And the finishing touch is a wash of setting spray! Double check that everything looks Anna-MAZING, and you're good to go!
