Pampering Self-Care Ideas

I don't know who needs to hear this, but it's important to look after yourself and make time for YOU! Pampering yourself is soothing both physically and mentally and can be a great way to improve your wellbeing. I'm excited to share with you a rundown of my favorite self-care ideas. You can try these out on their own, or combine them for your very own spa night! Here's how I'd create the ultimate evening of relaxation...

Start out with a hot shower. The heat relaxes your muscles and the steam benefits your skin's moisture retention. Really take your time and cleanse away the day. You can even use your favorite hair treatment. For clarifying and removing buildup, I use the MopTop Clarifying Rescue Treatment, and for a hit of moisture, I'll reach for Devacurl's Melt into Moisture Mask.

Next, apply your favorite face mask to treat and replenish the skin. I like the I Dew Care Mini Scoops Wash-Off Masks. They're smooth and satisfying to apply, and just look at how cute they are! Let the product soak into the skin for about 10 minutes.

While you're waiting, you can try deep breathing, light stretching, or meditating. The YouTube channel Great Meditation has a lot of guided meditations I enjoy. Another idea is listening to music -- you could even create your own playlist of songs that make you feel good!

Then you can do a lip scrub to polish away any dead skin. You can use one you own, or try a simple homemade version: a dollop of honey (nature's skin salve) and some granulated sugar (a natural exfoliant) massaged onto the lips will do the trick. Follow up with a coating of lip balm and any other skincare steps you choose.

If your nails or toes need some attention, now is a good time! Cut, file, or polish your nails to your liking. I don't always apply polish to my nails, but I find that adding a little color can brighten up my day.

Another activity that makes me feel fresh is hair removal. Shave your legs, tweeze your eyebrows, wax your upper lip -- whatever makes you feel good. Make sure to nourish the body with some body lotion as well.

Other things you can do to elevate your evening of relaxation are environmental:

Find a place of solitude 👋
Put on cozy pajamas and slippers 🧦
Dim the lights 💡
Diffuse essential oils 💧
Light a candle 🎇
Turn off your phone 📵
Make a cup of tea 🍵

Ahh... there's nothing like an evening dedicated to self-care! One thing to note, though, is that while pampering is good on it's own, a lot of the benefit comes with your intention. Sure, anyone can put on a face mask and call it self-care, but it's about infusing your actions with mindfulness. Allow yourself to let go for a minute and just be. Give back to your body and mind. Focus on self-love -- because you deserve it.

  1. Great post, Danielle! I've definitely been doing a little self-care this Easter weekend. Not quite in the way you describe in this post, but just a little R & R. I've needed it.

Crumbl Cookie Review!

Welcome to the Crumbl Rumble . 16 cookies are facing off in a head to head battle to determine the ultimate cookie champion. Let's find out what flavor can really pack a punch! Here. We. Go. Pink Velvet vs. Double Chocolate Chunk Pink Velvet is a cake batter flavored cookie with vanilla cream cheese frosting and a garnish of pink cookie crumbs. Double Chocolate Chunk features both semisweet chocolate chips and milk chocolate chunks with a sprinkle of sea salt. Both of these cookies were lovely, taking me back to the sweet moment of eating them. That's what I love about food; it is more than something to eat, it's a memory, too.  Pink Velvet was the first Crumbl cookie I tried about two years ago, and I was so excited to see what all the hype was about. It sure delivered! I love the ever-so-slight crunch that leads into each soft, pillowy bite. The cream cheese frosting was delicious, and there is something about eating a pink cookie that sparks serotonin. 💗  I enjoyed Dou...

If You Were a Color, What Would You Be?

Personalities can be as diverse as colors on a color wheel. We all know people who fit the bright, bubbly expression of the color yellow or the calm, welcoming aura of the color blue. I think it's interesting how people associate different colors with various emotions and types of people.  Color psychology is an entire branch of psychology that looks at how color affects human behavior. It is used by cultures to communicate rank or meaning, by psychologists to study emotion, and by businesses to send specific advertising messages to consumers. I find it fascinating that while color plays a significant role in our experience of life, it is simply a matter of perception. There is no truth of color, it's just how our minds help us process our surroundings. A video from Read Write Now does a great job explaining the common associations most Western cultures have with different colors. I provided a recap below.  Black: power, mystery, sophistication, grief, seriousness White: Sof...

Preparing for a Princess Event!

I'm lucky enough to have a job making magic. ✨ Princess performing is a culmination of many things I love: dress up, acting, and making people happy. I've attended events and birthday parties for children for over two years as your favorite Disney princesses, and I absolutely love it! Bringing these characters to life and giving the gift of magic to families is so special. It's an art that truly lights me up. There is quite the process of preparing for each event, though, and I want to guide you along the journey. CHARACTER PREPARATIONS First of all, you must have a solid foundation of knowledge about your character. You should be ready to answer any question... and kids ask  a lot  of questions. This preparation includes re-watching your princess's movie and/or tv series and preparing dialogue that aligns with what your character would say. For example, if I were preparing to be Ariel, I would keep phrases like "have a fin-tastic day," "I hope you're...
