Nailing Your At Home Manicure

Nail-care is a great way to feel primped and polished. I prefer to do my own manicures (pedicures, on the other hand, will be saved for the salon)! About once or twice a month I'll set aside some "me time" to take care of my hands and nails. Sometimes I just shape my nails and leave them bare, and other times I will apply color. Here's how I nail my at home manicure 😉.

First, I wash my hands and set up my workspace. I get my bag of nail supplies, find a comfy spot, and maybe turn on some music. Then I go ahead and clip my nails, making sure they're all a similar length. Next is filing. I go in with a small file for shape, which is typically rounded for me, and follow up with a larger file. Then I use a buffer to buff and smooth my nail beds.

This is the point where I add in moisture. I massage a cuticle oil into my fingertips to keep them healthy and strong, and then I gently push them back with my cuticle pusher tool. This not only looks cleaner, but the nails can grow faster if the cuticles are tidy. Finally, I apply hand lotion to lock in moisture. Sometimes I will give myself a gentle hand massage for further relaxation.

This is oftentimes where I end my routine -- simple, clean nails are never out of style.

Here is what my nails looked like before...

... and after

This is where the polish comes in! I decided on a bright purply-pink this time, specifically Pacifica's 7 Free Pink Metal shade. I usually apply two coats of polish followed by top coat.

Note: make sure your hands are nice and dry right before applying polish. The drier the nail beds, the longer your polish will last. This means that if I know I'm applying color right after cutting and shaping the nails, I will save the cuticle oil and hand lotion for after the polish is applied and dried.

Here is the color in action!

Another one of my all-time favorite polishes to wear is Sally Hansen's Hard As Nails in Cold As Ice. It's a sheer gloss that has lovely reflections of pink and gold. You really can't go wrong with it!

My nails are ready and done ✨ now you can try your hand at it!

Crumbl Cookie Review!

Welcome to the Crumbl Rumble . 16 cookies are facing off in a head to head battle to determine the ultimate cookie champion. Let's find out what flavor can really pack a punch! Here. We. Go. Pink Velvet vs. Double Chocolate Chunk Pink Velvet is a cake batter flavored cookie with vanilla cream cheese frosting and a garnish of pink cookie crumbs. Double Chocolate Chunk features both semisweet chocolate chips and milk chocolate chunks with a sprinkle of sea salt. Both of these cookies were lovely, taking me back to the sweet moment of eating them. That's what I love about food; it is more than something to eat, it's a memory, too.  Pink Velvet was the first Crumbl cookie I tried about two years ago, and I was so excited to see what all the hype was about. It sure delivered! I love the ever-so-slight crunch that leads into each soft, pillowy bite. The cream cheese frosting was delicious, and there is something about eating a pink cookie that sparks serotonin. 💗  I enjoyed Dou...

If You Were a Color, What Would You Be?

Personalities can be as diverse as colors on a color wheel. We all know people who fit the bright, bubbly expression of the color yellow or the calm, welcoming aura of the color blue. I think it's interesting how people associate different colors with various emotions and types of people.  Color psychology is an entire branch of psychology that looks at how color affects human behavior. It is used by cultures to communicate rank or meaning, by psychologists to study emotion, and by businesses to send specific advertising messages to consumers. I find it fascinating that while color plays a significant role in our experience of life, it is simply a matter of perception. There is no truth of color, it's just how our minds help us process our surroundings. A video from Read Write Now does a great job explaining the common associations most Western cultures have with different colors. I provided a recap below.  Black: power, mystery, sophistication, grief, seriousness White: Sof...

Preparing for a Princess Event!

I'm lucky enough to have a job making magic. ✨ Princess performing is a culmination of many things I love: dress up, acting, and making people happy. I've attended events and birthday parties for children for over two years as your favorite Disney princesses, and I absolutely love it! Bringing these characters to life and giving the gift of magic to families is so special. It's an art that truly lights me up. There is quite the process of preparing for each event, though, and I want to guide you along the journey. CHARACTER PREPARATIONS First of all, you must have a solid foundation of knowledge about your character. You should be ready to answer any question... and kids ask  a lot  of questions. This preparation includes re-watching your princess's movie and/or tv series and preparing dialogue that aligns with what your character would say. For example, if I were preparing to be Ariel, I would keep phrases like "have a fin-tastic day," "I hope you're...
